Residents Club Winter League (3)

Interest in the winter league being organised by Golf Leisure Breaks has been very strong, but Christmas, despite being a time of joy, brings it’s own problems, especially in the period leading up to the holiday.

What with Christmas preparations (oh, the joys of Christmas shopping!), families visiting and visiting families, many entrants feel they would have difficulties fielding a team until after Christmas. So the sensible thing to do will be to start the league on the Sunday 14th. January, with 9 rounds to be played up to 11th. March. From these, the best 8 aggregate scores will decide the eventual league champions, who will win a golf holiday in Portugal’s Algarve for 4, with 3 nights in 4 Star accommodation and two rounds of golf. Prizes will be presented at a special end-of-season Gala Dinner at “Crumps” Restaurant & Clubhouse. Green fees will be no more than 60€ except in one or two cases when a buggy is included. Each team will be able to nominate a squad of 5 members from which their team can be picked each Sunday, which should cover any emergency situations. Entry fee is 20€ per team member, which will include the end-of-season Gala Dinner.

Since the winter league has been devised especially for full-time residents on the Costa del Sol, many of whom can only play at weekends, a regular Sunday stableford competition is being arranged each Sunday, commencing 2nd. December at the Royal Málaga Golf Club (Parador). At a special green fee of 58€, this gives entrants to the winter league an opportunity to “test the water”. The first start time will be 11:00, with entries limited to 36. The event will be followed by a presentation dinner at Crumps Restaurant in the evening. The whole package, including golf, shared buggy and dinner, will be only 75€. Prizes will include magnificent Christmas hampers (1st., 2nd. & 3rd.), plus prizes for nearest the pin & longest drive.
