ALHAURIN GOLF IS ALIVE AND WELL!

My last visit to Alhaurín Golf Club was some 5 years ago and much has changed since then under the astute  management of golf director Rafael Cruz-Conde. When I arrived on Sunday, the place was buzzing, following an inter-club match and it was clear that Ahaurín is now a thriving members’ club.

Even more noticeable was the huge improvement in the condition and presentation of the golf course itself. Alhaurín still remains a challenge for golfers of all abilities and is certainly easier the second time around, when players will be more familiar with the quirks of this Seve Ballesteros layout. Due to the nature of the hilly terrain, there are several blind shots, but excellent signage on each tee is a great help, with graphics depicting the shape of the hole, together with the location of water hazards.  One of the benefits of this location, which is several hundred metres above sea level, is the breathtaking views to the mediterranean and, on a clear day, the coast of north Africa.  Another is the absence of traffic noise and the general tranquility, so that even when enduring a bad round of golf, one can appreciate the beauty of the course and its surroundings.

The Alhaurín Club also boasts a quality par three course and some excellent practise facilities, as well as an impressive clubhouse. The ambience is warm and welcoming and the bar terrace, which overlooks the course, offers great views. Food and beverages are reasonably priced and the service is efficient and friendly. A deciding factor in its resurgence is that Alhaurín represents great value, especially over the next two months, when a greenfee, including shared buggy, will be €88 for 2 green fees + buggy through Golf Leisure Breaks (public price 92€).
