AGE BEFORE BEAUTY

Courtesy prevailed at Turnberry on Sunday, as all the young pretenders politely opened the door for the old gentleman; all except the not-so-young Stewart Cink and fate itself. Tom Watson hardly put a foot wrong, even playing a near-perfect approach to the 72nd hole, only to see his ball roll gently off the back of the green to nestle against a collar of rough. The original script would have seen him left with a simple two-putt to become the oldest man ever to win a Major.  Although the subsequent play-off over four holes proved to be an anticlimax, Cink was humble enough to concede that although he won the Claret Jug, the 2009 Turnberry Open would always be remembered as Tom Watson’s Open.

A GREAT WELCOME AT SAN ROQUE
A wonderful day at San Roque, when guests of Golf Leisure Breaks took part in a special competition, was rounded off by a great performance by Henrik Andreason, who scored 36 points off a handicap of one. Henrik’s gross score of 73 was achieved despite the fact that this was his first round on the challenging new course, which has hosted the Spanish Open.

His feat was generously rewarded by San Roque, who presented Henrik with a courtesy round for two, including buggy. In 2nd place was Lionel Muñoz (h’cap 4) with 34 points, while 3rd place went to Anita Trautman (h’cap 15) with 30 points. Our thanks to the San Roque Club, who ensured that we received a warm welcome and who provided excellent value for money.
