Golf under the sun
Posted August 7th, 2009 by adminJuly and August are traditionally quiet months for our golf courses as temperatures soar and most golf tourists spend the summer playing on their home courses. But a significant number have already chosen to take advantage of bargain basement greenfees, many of which include a buggy. In fact, despite gloomy predictions about the effects of a global recession, the numbers of visitors during June & July are already greater than for the same period last year, judging by the popularity of the Golf Leisure Breaks regular competitions (see details of these elsewhere on this page).
Seasoned summer golfers are always well prepared for the high temperatures, taking plenty of water with them (beer is a no-no out on the golf course!), wearing a hat and keeping to the shade whenever possible. Ensuring the availability of a windscreen-less buggy adds to the comfort, while 90% access onto the dry fairways ensures a reasonably quick round. Congratulations to the Calanova club who have adopted this service as standard, so that golfers can enjoy a round in under four hours, without having to walk 100 metres to the other side of the fairway, carrying an armful of clubs. It also does away with the futile excercise of golfers having to beg for the coveted blue flag and caddymasters having to insist on a medical certificate. Tempus fugit and the winter high season looms, even as we are talking about cheap summer golf. There are signs that lessons are being learnt, as several courses have reduced their winter green fees to acceptable levels, which should lead others to follow, if somewhat reluctantly Golf Leisure Breaks are receiving plenty of requests for information about where to play and how much to pay from October onwards, and those courses which have reduced greenfees – not necessarily the cheapest - are proving to be the most popular selections. Details of these are available on our website www.golfleisurebreaks.net, or by telephone; 952 582 943. Ask for Julie or Paul.
