A Silver Lining

Foul weather in the UK and most north european countries is proving a blessing in disguise for the Costa del Golf. Signs that the global recession may be coming to an end are combining with gloomy weather forecasts to persuade frustrated golfers to start booking their winter golf breaks here in the south of Spain. The challenge now is to convince returning visitors and newcomers that the Costa del Golf can provide quality to compete with the many new golf destinations.

Fortunately, the signs are that an increasing number of our courses are reacting, if somewhat belatedly, to the need to improve the quality and value of their courses and service. Those courses which do now offer good value for money are beginning to reap their rewards with a welcome increase in advance bookings for the coming winter, while others will do well to survive.

A relatively new gambit introduced by many of our golf clubs is to offer “deals on wheels”, which include a shared buggy in the green fee.  In the past, these offers have tended to be reserved for off-season periods, such as the summer months and the months each side of the Christmas holidays.  They have been very successful, in that they have kept many courses ticking over despite the recession and the relatively low numbers of golfers visiting the area.  The obvious conclusion is that golfers react favourably to attempts to ensure that they receive good value for their money, so why not  continue with something that obviously works? For more information on special offers available during September and the coming winter months, call Julie or Paul on 952 582 943.
