2010 – A FRESH START?
Posted January 1st, 2010 by adminAs we approach the start of a new decade (where did the last one go?), the Costa del Sol’s golf tourism industry faces the same challenge as any other industry in any other country as the global economic recession appears to be nearing an end. That is, how to win back customers and how to attract new ones. There is more to golf tourism than group of golf courses competing with each other to attract travelling golfers. A golf holiday abroad involves other important factors, including flights, accommodation, travelling between airport, hotels and golf courses – all of which require the catalyst of professional agencies to put the whole package together. Flights, especially between the UK and Spain are now cheaper than ever, which is a good start.
What is now required, is a think tank involving all those involved in bringing golf tourists to the Costa del Sol during the winter months. Since travel agents and tour operators are those who put together the whole package, it is time that golf course representatives and local golf tour operators, together with the tourist board and the Andalucia provincial government, combine to establish what golf travellers really want and what should be done to convince them that the Costa del Golf deserves its sobriquet and is still the best choice.
After all, it was the tour operators who were mainly responsible for putting the Costa del Sol on the map and it is they who have the facilities and contacts in place to continue advising their clients that the Costa del Golf offers the best value. But they can only do so by all working together to the same end. So our New Year’s resolution should be “Let’s get together and talk!” – a resolution which once made should not be broken. It just remains for all of us at Golf Leisure Breaks to wish all our readers, clients and those who have cooperated with us to ensure that our clients have had an enjoyable experience, a happy and prosperous New Year.
