TOP 100 GOLF COURSES…..

….is a website which publishes annually lists of the world’s best golf courses. Course rankings are based on objective reports from golfers (other than club members) who have played there.  Lists are regional and the Top Hundred Continental Europe Golf Courses reveal a surprising new number one. Those who are interested in such things are used to seeing Valderrama occupying the top spot, but that has now been taken by a little-known course in France, Golf de Morfontaine, situated a few kilometres north of Paris.
Although its position as Europe’s best course is open to question, since only members and guests can play there, the most interesting fact is that Morfontaine was designed by none other than Tom Simpson (designer of Parador’s Royal Málaga Golf Club course) and was constructed back in 1927. Although the course has been tinkered with over the years, it remains basically the same as when it was first laid down, so it is refreshing that an old traditionally designed golf course can be deemed to be better than modern American-style courses such as Valderrama. The problem is that you won’t be able to visit the elitist Morfontaine Club yourself, unless you are extremely well connected in Parisian high society.
