PARADOR ON COURSE
Posted February 12th, 2010 by adminJust a few short weeks ago, Parador’s Royal Málaga Golf Club was battling to get the course in shape for next month’s Open de Andalucía, and it looked like being a losing battle. Now with just a few short weeks to go, the green staff have worked wonders, despite adverse weather conditions. The greens are excellent, all the bunkers have new sand, providing consistency and the tees, both members’ and championship tees, are green again and mowed short. The fairways are still suffering a little from the vast volume of rain thrown at them during most of January, but a couple of weeks of warmth and sunshine should do the trick, to ensure that the Andalucían Open will be as successful as its predecessors, the Turespaña Masters of 1991 and 1999.
The Parador course is unique on the Costa del Sol, in that it is a traditional English style course, designed in 1925 by Tom Simpson. It is a fair course, walkable and suitable for golfers of all abilities. Miss a fairway and you have a fair chance of finding your ball and keeping the ball in play. The miraculous recovery has enabled Golf Leisure Breaks to resume its regular Wednesday Stableford competitions right up until the course closes on 14th March for final preparations for the Open de Andalucía, which commences on the 25th. Our high season competition green fee has been reduced to only 57 euros – not bad for a course which has hosted a European Tour event! Especially as the Public rate is 72 euros and the normal buggy fee is 36 euros.
