Spare A Thought For The Greenkeepers
Posted March 12th, 2010 by adminThis winter has seen the heaviest rainfall on the Costa del Sol since records began – nearly all of it concentrated on the past two months. The first week of rain was welcomed by everyone (with the obvious exception of disappointed golfers), as near-empty reservoirs began to fill, and parched golf courses enjoyed a long-awaited drink of natural water. But the feast following the famine has created its own problems. Waterlogged courses have been difficult to maintain and have often been closed as being unplayable, resulting in serious loss of revenue for the golf clubs and more disappointment for travellers who have spent a lot of money to play in our much vaunted warm winter climate. Residents have been more fortunate, having been able to take advantage of the odd sunny day.
Even in this technological age, no-one has yet discovered a way to control the weather. Yet our staff still receive complaints from golfers that the course they have been lucky enough to find open for play was wet and muddy. Come on guys! The greenstaff worked their socks off, just so you could get a game. Golf is an outdoor sport and no-one can guarantee the weather. Try remembering the winter weather which you have endured at home and accept that this winter is probably a one-off for the Costa del Golf.
