RECESSION, MONSOON WEATHER, VOLCANIC ASH – WHAT NEXT?
Posted April 23rd, 2010 by adminGenerally speaking, the Costa del Golf has coped well with the first two of these crises, but the phenomenom created by a volcano eruption in faraway Iceland has posed unique problems, beyond the control of any authority. No-one’s to blame and no-one can make a decision which will bring an end to the problem of getting travellers back in the air safely. The travel and tourism industries are having to bear the brunt of unprecedented travel restrictions, and it’s a pleasure to report that so far, all those involved locally in dealing with travelling (or non-travelling) golfers have behaved admirably. Last minute cancellations have been accepted gracefully with no penalties being charged and in the majority of cases, advance payments are being refunded without question to those who were prevented from travelling to Spain.
You may think that this is only right and proper, and so it is. But insurance companies throughout the world will be rejecting claims for billions of euros on the basis that a volcano eruption is “an act of God”.
Julie and Paul in the Golf Leisure Breaks office have been working non-stop to keep their clients up-to-date with flight information, and to help them deal with the problems of extending their accommodation and car hire. The problems were exacerbated by torrential rain, which resulted in many rounds being lost as golf courses were forced to close. Ultimately, the Costa del Golf might be remembered by disappointed tourists for dealing with an unprecedented problem in a sympathetic and generous manner, which may well be important for future success.
