The Capello “Stroke” index
Posted August 9th, 2010 by adminFear not as the title does not refer to the ongoing ‘player rating’ saga but to the news that Fabio Capello will swap sports indexes to inaugurate a charity golf tournament at La Quinta Golf in aid of the Seve Ballesteros Foundation. Aided by his friend, Manuel Piñero, teams of four will compete over two days followed by a prize giving ceremony at the hotel. The event is open to spectators so why don’t you pop along and see some celebrities in action?
Fabio is actually a keen golfer but, as the old adage goes, there is a time and a place with golf on international duty certainly not par for the course. Footballers were banned from playing golf at The Grove during a recent international call-up with Fabio quite rightly pointing out that players would have plenty of time to play once they had checked out. Up until then one of the major selling points of this jolly, erm sorry, football camp to the FA had been its 18 holes.
Fabio’s visit to the Costa del Sol has already become shrouded in controversy with a golf versus country debate ensuing. Although many England fans are still suffering from a post South Africa hangover the Under 19′s meanwhile have been performing very well and, at time of press, still have a chance of making it to the final of the European Championships this weekend. The Press is having a field day over his probable non attendance at the final especially as he is on a reported annual salary of some six million pounds. Although, he is not the U19 coach – and no doubt receives regular player reports from his backroom staff like Stuart Pearce – this is a man that in the wake of the South Africa fiasco promised to give youth a chance.
