All change for the Ryder

As anticipated, the big money events on the European Tour & co-sanctioned tournaments in the U.S.A., are already changing the make-up of the European team during the final run-up to F.T. (Final Team) day.  Sure enough, Ross Fisher’s emphatic win in the 3 Irish Open catapulted him to 6th. place in the automatic qualifying positions, while Padraig Harrington’s welcome return to form with a final round 8-under-par 64 for 2nd. place, also moved him into contention. Ross McGowan was the first to be demoted, but

he could redeem himself by playing well in this week’s Bridgestone International, for which he qualified by winning the Madrid Open. Paul Casey needs high finishes in this event and the following U.S.P.G.A. if he does not want to rely on a captain’s pick.  Big changes expected this week – watch out for Casey and Rose, who could relegate Molinari and Jimenez.
CONGRATULATIONS!…
….to Bernhard Langer on winning two Senior Majors in

successive weeks.  He followed his victory by a single shot in the Senior British Open by shooting a final round 67 to defeat Fred Couples by 2 shots in the U.S. Senior Open. And to Stuart Appleby, who ended a 4-year victory drought by shooting a final round 59 to win the Greenbrier Classic. Sub 60 rounds are becoming almost commonplace these days, but to achieve it over the final round of a PGA tour event for victory, is something special.
