Another “Ordinary Joe” golfer?

With the news that Michelle Obama, plus one daughter and full entourage will be visiting Marbella from August 4th-8th, whilst occupying 40 rooms at the exclusive Villa Padierna Hotel, all that is missing from this being a complete publicity coup for the Andalucian Tourist Board is the sight of leftie golfer Barrack Obama strutting his stuff on our fairways.

In my book it doesn’t matter if one is inclined to vote for the left or the right as, when it comes to the matter of golf, I take my hat off to Obama. Having taken the game up  on Michelle’s advice after suffering some basketball injuries she didn’t count on his participation in both sports continuing well into his forties. His one time British brother-in-law remarked that they once played four consecutive days of golf to,”get away from the women.” Don’t let the secret out! Seriously, if Michelle had done her homework properly she would have known that fourteen out of the last eighteen US presidents have been keen golfers. Dwight Eisenhower lent his name to a prestigious amateur team championship whilst poor Gerald Ford was ridiculed for his wayward driving.

A keen practiser Obama aspires to become a single figure golfer once he leaves office but is happy for the time being to describe himself as a,’ mid 90′s golfer.’ By all accounts he doesn’t accept Mulligans from playing partners either. Not surprising his forays onto the fairways have attracted criticism from some quarters. By spring of this year it was recorded that, not yet halfway through his first term of office, he had already played thirty two rounds of golf – eight more than George W. Bush managed during his entire presidency. Furthermore, during the BP oil spillage crisis the oil company’s chief executive, Tony Hayward, was ridiculed for going sailing on his yacht during a critical period. No prizes then for guessing where Obama was on a couple of free afternoons? One final question: when is Marbella not in Marbella? When it is in Benahavis?
